May is a busy month in North Devon, the spring celebrations kick off on the 3rd when you can Join in with the Ilfracombe Jack in the Green May Day festivities mustering from 10.45am in Wilder Road Car Park processing through the town to the Clapping Circle where they dance the May Pole, then ‘Jack’ will be stripped of his leafy coverings to welcome the Spirit of Summer. Everyone is welcome to join or watch the May Day parade – just turn up and if possible wear something green.




On the 9th & 10th May you can follow the Ilfracombe Art Trail An independent collaboration of artists, makers and galleries all located in and around Ilfracombe, mostly within a 20 minute walk of the High Street. The Art Trail lets you choose your own route and discover something new at every stop. Follow the trail wandering through Ilfracombe’s Victorian streets enjoying the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes the event so special. The town’s independent Artisan cafés and eateries are perfect for a break between stops. https://artilfracombe.co.uk





May 9th Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway Steampunk, Pirate and Victorian Gathering A splendid day filled with sublime Steampunk fun! Featuring live music, dancing from Borderline Morris and Switchframe. Live Steam Engine rides from Young Buster and SS Freshspring. A Stupendous Market, Steampunk Parade and lots, lots more! Concessions for those in full Steampunk dress. Normal Charges on the railway for everyone else.

May 10th head to RHS Rosemoor Plant Heritage Spring Sale Discover a wide variety of rare and unusual trees, shrubs and perennials from local nurseries at RHS Garden Rosemoor’s Plant Heritage Spring Fair, many of which are not generally open to the public (all for sale under the Plant Heritage banner) a must for all keen gardeners and plant collectors.


22 May - 24 May we head back to Ilfracombe for the annual Beer Fest. Join Ilfracombe Roundtable over the May bank holiday weekend for fun in the sun, all raising money for local charities and good causes. Three days of live music, stunning street food, family fun… Oh, and over 60 local ales and ciders and awesome street food vendors cooking up a storm.


May 31st Visit South Molton Pannier Market for a Festival of Food & Drink! Explore over 50 vibrant stalls overflowing with artisan delights — from locally sourced produce and sizzling street food to freshly baked bread, indulgent cakes, handcrafted chocolate, small-batch spirits, and so much more. A true feast for the senses, this is a foodie event not to be missed!
